The Radio and its uses

       The radio is one of the most important media of communication. All the countries have their own radio services and it has become so important that one cannot think of doing without it.
      The radio was invented in 1924 by Marconi, an Italian scientist. It transmit audio information and elector magnet radiation is used to transmit or receive impulses or signals without connecting wires. Each radio transmitting station uses a different frequency of radio waves to transmit and one only needs to switch over the appropriate frequency to listen to one's desired station.
      The first and formost use of the radio is to entertain people. It broadcasts music, dramas, speeches and comments on national or international issues. People are generally fond of music and love to hear it. The radio broadcast vocal and instrumental music, popular songs and orchestral melody to entertain people at home or abroad. Radio dramas, quiz programs and features also attract the attention of general public.
 The radio is also used to broadcast commentary when cricket and hockey matches are held. At places where television broadcast do not reach, people turn to the radio to listen to the commentary. During test matches one can see people standing or sitting around a radio set in a pan shop or office, absorbed in the commentary.
      Another use of the radio is that it gives information or warning to people. It broadcast news, comments on important news or issues and warning of an approaching storm of flood etc. It also broadcast weather reports weather forecasts.
      In some countries they use the radio to educate students. Interesting lessons are broadcast. Lecture programs by learned teachers and professors and views of experts on a subject are arranged. It is also used by traders, merchants and manufactures to advertise their goods or products.
      In war the radio becomes very important. Units are provided with portable sets of radio to communicate with their officers or to send news of progress or counter attack by enemy to the commanding officers. It is also use for war propaganda and to depress the morale of the enemy. Bombers, fighters or an attacking unit gets instructions from their officers on radio sets.
